Breath is the link
between mind, body & soul
Dan Brule
Our own breath can be used as a tool to radically improve our mental and physical health, our performance and emotional wellbeing.
What is Breathwork?
Breathwork is a simple, effective way to reconnect your body and mind. Most of us spend our days in our heads, overthinking, rushing, and breathing in ways that keep the nervous system on high alert. When the breath becomes shallow, fast or stuck in the chest, stress rises and focus drops. Breathwork helps break that cycle.
There are many ways to work with the breath. Functional nasal breathing helps you slow down, improve oxygen efficiency and regulate your nervous system - a foundation for clearer thinking, better energy and long-term health. More immersive, therapeutic practices allow you to release built-up tension, shift emotional energy and tap into deeper layers of healing.
Whether you want to calm the mind, steady your nerves, improve performance or let go of what your body has been holding onto, breathwork gives you practical tools to shift your state from the inside out. It’s one of the most accessible ways to feel more grounded, present and connected to yourself in a world that often pulls you away from that.
My Journey With Breathwork
My relationship with breathwork started long before I realised it. I’d dipped in and out of meditation for years, always noticing the same thing — on the days I focused on my breathing, my mind settled faster and stayed calm for longer. That curiosity grew into questions: Why does this work? What’s actually happening in the body when the breath changes?
So I began digging into the science — the central nervous system, state shifts, and how breath influences everything from focus to emotion. Around the same time, in 2019, I took up cold-water sea swimming. Anyone who’s stepped into freezing water knows the shock that hits your breath first. Learning how to steady my breathing before and during those swims taught me, in a very physical way, just how quickly the breath can change your state.
As an Energy Leadership Coach, I was already working deeply with mindset, emotions and behaviour. But it became clearer and clearer that “talking” only got people so far. The body held more than the mind could explain. The breath became the missing link — backed up by everything I was learning about the unconscious mind, Internal Family Systems, and Polyvagal Theory. I started weaving simple breathing practices into coaching sessions and noticed clients shifting faster, more gently, and in ways that felt truly integrated.
In 2022, after losing my Dad following a long illness, I knew I needed something deeper — not just professionally, but personally. Grief has a way of living in the body, and I instinctively felt that I needed space to breathe, recover and reconnect with myself. That instinct led me to Ikaria, a small island in Greece, where I spent a month training with the Samma Karuna School of Awakening in therapeutic breathwork facilitation.
That month changed me. Some sessions brought an emotional release I didn’t know I needed; others gave me a level of peace and clarity I’d never experienced before. It was raw, grounding, humbling and deeply healing. I realised that breathwork wasn’t just a tool — it was a doorway. A way back to myself. A way to support others through stress, loss, transition and growth with far more depth and safety.
Since then, breathwork has become a core part of my work. I’ve seen clients reconnect with parts of themselves they thought they’d lost, regulate their nervous systems, release long-held tension and experience quiet moments of inner peace that shift everything. And I’ve felt all of that in my own journey too.
It’s why I’m so passionate about sharing it — because I know what it can do, not just in theory, but in real, lived life.
The condition of our breath mirrors the state of our inner world.
The way we breathe says a lot about what’s happening inside. When life feels overwhelming, the breath often becomes shallow, fast or held. When we’re grounded and connected, it naturally becomes steadier and more spacious. Breathwork helps you reconnect the two — body and mind — so you’re not stuck living in your head or running on stress alone.
I work with a range of breathing modalities, depending on your needs and what your nervous system can safely work with:
Functional Breathing (Oxygen Advantage®) — gentle, science-based nasal breathing that improves oxygen efficiency, reduces over-breathing, calms the mind and supports long-term physical and emotional wellbeing. This is the foundation of any breathwork practice.
Tetra Breath / Conscious Connected Breath — a circular, deeper style of breath that can help release stored tension, increase emotional awareness and support energetic or somatic healing when used intentionally and safely.
The key to this work is understanding the science behind how different techniques affect the body. Every person has a unique nervous system, different tolerances, and different levels of emotional readiness — so a “one-size-fits-all” approach isn’t safe or helpful. Before exploring any immersive practice, we always start with education, gentle regulation tools and a clear understanding of your health background, triggers and goals.
Breathwork can be powerful because our bodies don’t just store stress — they store memories, patterns and emotions too. Much of this happens below conscious awareness. Over time, unprocessed experiences can show up as anxiety, tension, overwhelm, emotional numbness, overthinking or feeling stuck. Using the breath, we can begin to soften some of these patterns, release what the body has been holding onto, and create space for more clarity and ease.
In deeper sessions, you’ll be guided through a specific breathing pattern, supported by carefully curated music and a safe, grounded environment. The aim isn’t to force anything, but to help you access what your body is ready to release — from stagnant energy or limiting beliefs to emotional blocks and old habits.
Above all, breathwork is about meeting yourself with care. Learning to listen to your body. Building trust in your own intuition. And creating space for healing, regulation and genuine self-acceptance at a pace that feels right for you.
